Steve Shipcoff is an ambitious and highly accomplished Top Merchandising Executive with extensive global experience in sales, marketing, promotions, key accounts, business development, market strategy, and competitive analysis. He bases direction on consumer insight, while providing goods and services with high market demand; achieving the desired result by creating profitable solutions. Steve is an enterprising, creative thinker and a confident practitioner. Goal oriented, productive and is an upstream contributor utilizing exceptional organizational skills. He leads with a clear vision and is resourceful and people oriented. Steve is able to motivate with energetic exuberance while facing strong challenges, motivating others around him to exceed their goals. Steve initiates innovative solutions, while focusing on the clients desired results for the company.
Steve started his career with the W.T. Grant Company in Columbia, Missouri. He then joined the Wal-Mart company in July of 1977 when the company had 180 stores in 5 states. Spending almost 30 years with Wal-Mart, Steve had an outstanding career contributing significantly to the growth and success of the company while carrying out Sam Walton's traditions and retail vision.
With his initial experience in store operations, Steve learned the importance of identifying and satisfying the customer's needs attributing to his success in the retail industry. He later joined the merchandising division at Wal-Mart where he piloted many successful domestic merchandising programs which later led to Wal-Mart asking him to lead the toy merchandising team, successfully leading this team for 5 years.
1996 through 2006 Steve worked with the International division where he contributed greatly to the growth and development of their merchandising divisions operating in ten countries outside the U.S. He accomplished this by developing and training the buying teams in those countries as well as developing the supplier base in the respective countries, better satisfying the consumer’s needs through Improved assortments at competitive prices.
Some of Steve’s major accomplishments include: Redefining the method of replenishment in bulk pet foods, reducing lead times from three weeks to 5 days and greatly improving in stocks and reducing inventory 25%.
Steve piloted new jewelry and shoe programs in the international markets where there were no such programs.
He redefined the way that licensed goods were purchased from key licensors such as Disney, Universal and Warner Bros., substantially reducing the licensing cost, saving the customer 20% to 30% Improving sales and profits.
At Wal-Mart Steve worked with key suppliers giving them the tools and teaching them to grow their business with the company. He achieved this by showing them how to gain a better visibility of all facets of their business, resulting in greater sales and profits for themselves and Wal-Mart, providing a Win-Win strategy and a platform for future growth.
